Starkville’s east side is adjacent to Mississippi State
University, one of the area’s largest employers. The University has about
25,000 students, which is close to the population of Starkville. While the area
has a very long history, it has always stayed small, preserving the Indian
Mound Campground and other important historical sites. Despite the quiet nature
of the area, there are still plenty of local events held throughout the year.
The Magnolia Film Festival, for example, is one of the most prominent film
festivals in the state. You will also find several music festivals including
the Ragtime & Jazz Music Festival and Old Main Music Festival. While the
majority of people living in the city are students, there is plenty of families
in the area because of the tranquil town environment and excellent education
system
